D1 General Business Meeting 9/20/25 at Calabazas Community Room
Gary Cunningham opened the meeting at 9:14 am.
Meeting Attendees: Gary Cunningham, D1 L.G. Vice-Chair, Jerry Giles, D1 L.G. Secretary, and Betty Kabanek, D1 L.G. Treasurer. Rosemary Kamei, D1 Council Member, Kobe Lopez, D1 Office Public Safety and Community Development Coordinator, David Moore (david@certaintogether.com), Elizabeth Guimarin, D1 L.G. Emergency Prep Coordinator, Richard Stevens, Gary Smith, Timothy Choy, Prospect H.S. Youth Representative, and Barbara Morrey, Charleen Marfil, Amy Cody, Daphna Woolfe, John Linthacum, Lauren Burlaqua (Mitty H.S.), and Latanya Hilton (Mitty H.S.).
Gary Cunningham: Introduced board members, reviewed the agenda, and said all current officers are terming out in January. Requested members provide recommendations for new officers at the November meeting.
Action item: Motion to accept the 6/21/25 meeting minutes was made by Gary Smith; seconded by Amy Cody; and unanimously approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Bank balance at 9/19/25 was $2,783.24.
Daphna Woolfe: Discussed the Library Commission and the library/parks relationship. Library funds have increased, and possible renovation or new construction of the West Valley Library.
Gary Cunningham: Discussed Neighborhood Commission, and lack of oversight on Tax Measure B. He also discussed that the Bond Measure T Oversight Committee will start reviewing data in October.
Roundtable Reports: NA leaders reported on their individual NA’s. We need a list of nominees for the board and a list of all current NA officers.
Gary Cunningham: E-waste & Shredding event, 10/18/25, Moreland School District HQ at 1850 Fallbrook Ave., from 8am until 11:30 am, on a first-come, first served basis. Need D1 members to help with event.
Rosemary Kamei: Wants more youth involved in the neighborhood associations. Hamann Park will be renovated, and a new master plan for Santana Park is planned. An All-Neighborhoods meeting will be held at the City Rotunda on 10/4. The city council will be discussing the implications of SB79.
Elizabeth Guimarin: Reported on Emergency Prep activities. David Moore, District 6 member, spoke on Emergency Prep HUBS. HUBS will be in a pre-determined neighborhood location and will serve as information centers. First focus will be on helping households. See website Certaintogether.Org for information. An Emergency Prep – Village Hub Event was held at the end of the General Business Meeting.
