• Ken provided a brief overview of the Treasurer’s Report on behalf of Jerry Giles (see attached for report).
• Ken gave an update on D1 business (see presentation here [PDF])
• Ramona gave an update on the D1 Decides and there was a brief discussion regarding the various projects.
• The D1 decides process will start in December.
• Ken gave an update on past D1 events since May
• Councilmember Jones reported that
  • Jerad is moving to the Office of the Mayor, Rachel Davis joined the staff and David Gomez was promoted to Chief of Staff
  • Infrastructure bond measure for $650 measure to the November ballot
  • $450 M housing bond measure to the ballot as well.
  • Hotel approved on DeAnza Blvd – 5 major projects proposed on DeAnza. West San Jose is the number one economically viable location for economic development. Councilmember Jones voted against, as there is no Urban Village plan for the area, as it is a Horizon 3 area.
  • Hathaway park – $1.2M budget to improve the park. Still on hold due to the flood from 2-years ago. Squirrel eradication and how to do it is still an issue at Murdock.
  • Heather Randall is our new police captain for District 1.
  • 9/22 – 9^th annual shred-a-thon and will include a medication drop at the Century site.
  • Councilmember Jones voiced his concern about neighborhood association participation in District 1
• Kristi Moos Wilson from the City of San Jose gave an update on Climate Smart San Jose (see attachment [PDF] here, and video and her follow-up comments, below).
• Ray Riordan gave an update on the Office of Emergency Management and discussed the CERT program that will be implemented within the next 6 months. They have programs that they want to deliver at the neighborhood level. See video, below, for details and discussion.
• There was a brief group discussion at the end of the meeting addressing concerns about how to get neighborhood association participation, how to sustain participation and succession planning for neighborhood leadership. This will be an ongoing theme moving forward.
  • The idea of having a catalyst, such as a public safety meeting, to draw participation from a broad group, was suggested.
  • Concerns about liability as an officer in a neighborhood association – question as to whether UNSCC covers Directors and Officers.
  • Cupertino has a block program – which we should investigate
  • Eden has National Night Out on a block-by-block basis.
  • The D1 Leadership Group needs to give more notice on the meetings – save the date should be sent several weeks ahead of the meeting and then a reminder email should be sent prior to the meeting. We should ask for RSVPs to make sure we have representation from each neighborhood.
  • WONA – 75 to 150 people at each meeting that are mostly issue-driven meetings. No block meeting. 800 flyers for each meeting are handed out by Flyer Captains to generate interest in the meeting. They also use their website, Nextdoor with Facebook and Twitter to promote. Plus, they invite businesses and outside the neighborhood
  • Regular socialization events, July 4^th party, Christmas Party and book club. Litter pick-up. 538 homes Moreland West
  • Survey to D1 LG email list asking why they come to the meetings, what is needed, who the current leaders are, etc.

Apologies for my delayed response; we just finished up the Global Climate Action Summit event last week. It was a pleasure to meet you and the residents of District 1. Here is the information to share with participants of the District 1 group:

• Visit the Climate Smart San Jose website to learn more about actions you can take to climate smart your life and download a copy of the full Climate Smart plan.
• Looking to install solar? The city has developed this new resource with information on installing solar energy into homes and businesses.
• San Jose Clean Energy is launching in March 2019 for residential customers. Full information and a FAQ section can be found here.
• One of the participants asked about the funding for the Electrify San Jose initiative. The grant was provided by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. More information on BAAQMD can be found here.
